Vegan Wine
If you've spent hours preparing a delicious vegan meal, then what better way to enjoy it than with a glass of wine or two? However, as many vegans will already know, it can be exceptionally difficult to find wines which are labelled as vegan. Indeed, many bottles aren't suitable for vegans or even vegetarians. Often, the search for a good vegan wine can leave you hunting far and wide, and you decide to just go with ANYTHING that's vegan, or give up. However, there are a few high street retailers who do stock vegans wines at reasonable prices. One retailer which regularly labels its wines as suitable or not suitable for vegans is Marks & Spencer. Although you can't search for their vegan selection online, you can see clearly if they are vegan when you click on them. Here are three of the best vegan offerings from M&S: The White: Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chalumeaux 2009 This dry white wine from Cote de Beaune in Burgundy, France, has delectable notes of fruits such as nectarine and passion fruit, and makes the perfect accompaniment to light dishes, such as roasted vegetable tart. Made from the Chardonnay grape, you will also find a good balance of vanilla aromas, combined with a rich and expressive texture. Although this fine wine is one of the more expensive options, it is the perfect way to celebrate any occasion. The Red: Lurton La Chapelle 2006 This intense red wine is another bottle which hails from France, and offers a flavourful accompaniment to vegan hotpots, sausage and mash and other winter dishes. A robust and medium-bodied wine that offers rich plum and mocha flavours, as well as incorporating a contemporary twist on traditional oaky infusions. The wine is also great for enjoying on its own. The Rose: Cabernet Franc Rose 2008 This crisp and dry rose wine uses grapes from the mountainous region of Friuli, located in Northeast Italy, to give a unique and fruity flavour. It is an unusual variety of rose with a hint of leafiness about it, and a distinctive and slightly minty aroma. This wine tastes great with most food dishes and is perfect for enjoying outdoors during the summer months. These are just three examples of the excellent vegan wines on offer at M&S, but there are many more to be found.
